Wall Paintout – Camera Tracked Projection Cleanup (Nuke / ACES)

This shot is a projection-based paintout of a handheld phone plate featuring water-damaged interior wall plaster.

The goal of the work was to remove large structural imperfections including an exposed wall socket and sections of damaged concrete, while retaining enough surface variation to preserve realism. Some areas of damage were intentionally left in place to maintain natural texture and avoid over-cleaning the wall.

The footage was shot and tracked as a handheld plate, and a camera projection workflow was used in Nuke to maintain consistent perspective across the full shot. A single clean frame was created using RotoPaint, then projected back through a camera solve onto a card in 3D space.

The shot was composited in an ACES colour-managed workflow to ensure consistency between the clean plate and original footage. Subtle grading adjustments were applied to match lighting variation across the handheld camera movement.

Final grain was reintroduced to match the original phone footage and preserve integration with the source plate.

Created as a personal VFX exercise focused on tracking-based paintwork, projection workflows, and colour-managed compositing for live-action integration.
